Portraits
Photographs reduce the time investment in the process to paint a portrait; usually four to six weeks to complete the painting. I do an oil sketch to arrive at complexion, hair color, etc., which is normally done when I take the photos.
I make a detailed drawing on the canvas for your approval before I ever apply paint to canvas. Any changes as to pose, costume, or expression are finalized then – no surprises.
If this is a posthumous portrait I will need to see every possible photograph of the person to arrive at a workable image. I have successfully done a portrait with just a passport photo.
Portraits normally fall within $2,500 to $5,000 (plus tax) depending on pose (classic ¾ pose) and size. Detailed backgrounds (landscape, interior, pets) will add up to $500, also depending on size. Fees do not include shipping or framing.
A signed contract with a 50% nonrefundable deposit is expected when the portrait is commissioned with full payment upon approval. I will travel anywhere within reason to paint your portrait and do not charge for distant commissions.
I'm happy to do commissioned work besides portraits; landscapes, houses, livestock or pets. If you have any questions not addressed here please, let's talk about it. Email inquiries at Jackie@jackieknott.com.
